Vaisakhi Greetings and Wishes to All Sai Readers

The Ten Sikh Gurus

The Ten Sikh Gurus

Vaisakhi is elebrated as a “Festival of Happiness” all over India and specially in the large farming community in the states of Punjab and Haryana. Farmers are loaded with cash by sale of Rabi (winter) crops and thus they celebrate this festival as a fruit of their hard work.

Dear readers, it must be surprising to you why I am writing all this on SAI TERE HAZAARON NAAM blog. The reason is that this festival is associated with me also. Basically I am Sikh by caste and our family business is farming. Since childhood, I used to celebrate Vaisakhi with great enthusiasm with my family and those moments have settled in me deeply. This is one importance of this festival from farmers stand point and I would like to highlight it importance from religious stand point too in this post. I have heard about our Dharam Gurus from my parents and grandparents. At that time I did not know anything about Shirdi Sai Babaji. I was associated with Shirdi Sai Babaji in the year 1996, but before that as Sikh I was following rules and rituals related to my community and still it is so. Even after being picked up by Shirdi Sai Babaji, my thoughts and beliefs did not change. Indeed, I found Shri Guru Nanak Devji’s teachings and philosophies similar to Baba’s teachings and philosophies. It is strange but a true fact that “Sai” word is present at many places in “Shri Guru Granth Sahibji” (Holy Book of Sikhs). Gurubani was written by all Ten Gurus and many other saints of their time. Shri Guru Shri Gobind Singhji collected all religious poetries together and compiled it in one Holy Book (called “Shri Guru Granth Sahibji”). Shri Guru Nanak Devji has laid emphasis on equality of all religions and the same has been preached by Shirdi Sai Babaji. This is just one example of Their Common Philosophies. They Both comprehend, further more, to simple practices which can be followed to lead life while progessing on the path of spiritual attainment. So it is my belief that Shirdi Sai Babaji is an incarnation of Shri Guru Nanak Devji and there is least difference between the Two. It sometimes seem strange to me how Shirdi Sai Babaji chose me for spreading His Leelas through my voice and made me write bhajans for Him. We are unique and follow different religions, but are united here with the name of “Sai Babaji”. Thus His method of spreading the universal message “Sab Ka Malik Ek”God is One is very strange. Shri Guru Nanak Devji said “Ek-Om-Kar” which means God is One, all His life. Thus both Gurus gave us one and same mantra. Hence in my opinion Shri Guru Nanak Devji is Sai Babaji and Sai Babaji is Shri Guru Nanak Devji. They both are equal.

Through the medium of this blog, I wish to share the history and circumstances which led to birth of Sikh community long back in 1699 AD. I was reluctant to post this history first, but then felt as if Sai Babaji is only asking me to post it and at last I decided it to be posted here.

Long back in 1699 A.D. King Aurangzeb ruled Delhi. He forced all Hindus and people from other religions to adopt Islam religion. Due to this reason many innocents lost their lives with blood shed everywhere. Meanwhile Vaisakhi (30th March 1699 AD) was nearing and Shri Guru Gobind Singh Sahibji sent letters to people all over India and invited them for grand gathering at Anandpur Sahib City of Punjab, but did not disclose the real fact which He bore in His mind. At that time, he aged about 24 years.

Needless to say, about fifty to eighty thousand devotees reached pre-decided venue to pacify their curiosity and expecting to hear words of comfort and consolation from the lips of their Guru, but they were perturbed to see Him with a drawn sword in His hand and cried ‘Is there anyone here who would lay down his life for Dharam?’ There was a big silence, but the Guru went on repeating his demand. At the third call Daya Ram, a Khatri of Lahore, rose from his seat and offered himself. The Guru took him into an adjoining enclosure and soon after came out with blood dripping sword in hand and flourshing it before the gathering, asked again, ‘Is there any other Sikh here who will offer himself as a sacrifice for dharma? At this Daram Das, a Jat of Delhi, Haryana side came forward and was taken into the enclosure. The Guru again came out with the blood-stained sword, and made his previous demand. In the same way three other men stood up, one after another, and offered themselves for the sacrifice. One was Mohkam Chand, a chhimba of Dwarka (Gujarat State); another was Himmat, a cook of Jagannath (Orissa State); and the third was Sahib Chand, a barber of Bidar (Karnataka State). The Guru, after dressing the five in handsome clothes, brought them in the assembly.

These five were then administered ‘Khande Di Pahul’ (the double-edged Sword Amrit). They were then knighted as Singhs, as the Five beloved ones, the first members of the Order of the Khalsa. The Guru then asked them to administer Pahul to Him in the same manner in which He had given Pahul to them, and it was done so. From that day Sikhism came into being. After this incident, an equal identity was given to each and every person of Sikh community by Shri Guru Gobind Singhji. “Singh” became middle name of every male Sikh and “Kaur” became middle name of every female Sikh. Even Shri Guru Gobind Singhji adopted “Singh” in his middle name and changed his name from Shri Guru Gobind Rai to Shri Guru Gobind Singhji and abolished the inequalities among people. He gave equal rights and obligations to every Sikh. Every one stood at equal position whether he is all the rich or poor, able or disabled, white collor worker or low paid labourer. He gave a new direction to Sikh community by establishing “Khalsa Panth”.

Here is the list of Ten Gurus in order of their regime :

True love of God never sees boundries and is not concerned for any colour. If we bore love for that SUPREME then our love never find itself in boundations of caste, creed, colour or religion. Shri Guru Gobind Singh Sahibji proved this by His Word in Action. He taught Bhakti with Shakti – meaning Devotion should not be mistaken by weakness. Pray to God for safety, but when we face injustice we must be bold enough to fight against it. If you deeply study “Shri Guru Granth Sahibji”, you can get answers to all your problems. To put meaning of this Holy Book in a nutshell, only one word is enough “Ek-Om-Kar” meaning God is One like Sai Babaji said “Sab Ka Malik Ek”. Thus I would like to conclude saying that we all are equal as the colour of our blood is the same. We must respect all religions, religious books, true Saints and Gurus who spread word of Humanity. Our duty is thus to respect our elders and our culture. Follow a simple culture of helping needy and poor people around us. This is the message which Shirdi Sai Babaji and all other Gurus gave us. If every one of us start this from today itself, we can make this earth best place to live in. As Sai Babji has said to remember and respect our own Guru, I tried to follow it and shared this history with all of you. I apologize if I hurt anyone’s feelings through this post. Thanks for your patience.

In the end my heartful Sai Blessed wishes to all readers on this Vaisakhi festival. May Babaji Bless us all of you. Jai Sai Ramji…Sai Lover — Rana Gill
